Sony<\/a> has announced that it is currently testing the feature to stream PS5 games from the cloud, and plans to offer it as a feature in its PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. These include titles from the PS Plus Game Catalog, game trials, and other supported digital content.
“We are currently testing cloud streaming for supported PS5 games \u2013 this includes PS5 titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Game Trials, as well as supported digital PS5 titles that players own,” Nick Maguire, VP of global services, global sales, and business operations, Sony Interactive Entertainment said. “When this feature launches, cloud game streaming for supported PS5 titles will be available for use directly on your PS5 console. That means as a Premium member; it’ll be easier to jump into your favourite games without downloading them first onto your PS5 console.”
Sony currently offers Remote Play that supports streaming PS5 games to PCs, Macs, and both iOS and Android<\/a> devices. However, to download and stream titles on other devices, you must use your PS5 as the host. Although, with the new cloud streaming, Premium tier subscribers will be able to play the games without downloading on their console.
For months, it has been reported that Sony was working on cloud streaming. Recent job postings suggested a new emphasis on cloud gaming, and PlayStation chief Jim Ryan<\/a> hinted at “quite aggressive plans” for cloud gaming last month, introducing the Project Q handheld.
It is not known if the Project Q handheld console would support cloud streaming. Sony only confirmed Wi-Fi streaming of PS5 games directly from a console when they unveiled their new PlayStation handheld, codenamed Project Q.
Sony did not divulge much into the details, Maguire saying \u201cWe are in the early stages right now, and we can\u2019t wait to share more details when we are ready, including a launch time frame.\u201d \u201cWe think it\u2019s important for Premium members to be able to enjoy as many games as possible via cloud streaming,\u201d he further added.<\/div>\n
