On Monday (July 10), Mark Lucovsky, head of operating systems on Google‘s augmented reality (AR) team, announced via Twitter that he has left the company. He cited his reason for leaving as being due to “changes in AR leadership and Google’s unstable commitment and vision.”
In 2021, Lucovsky became the head of Google’s OS team that concentrates on augmented reality (AR) technology. Prior to his time at Google, he was at Facebook, where worked as the general manager for Oculus. Moreover, Lucovsky worked for Microsoft and VMware.
He is well-known for his contributions to the creation and design of the Windows NT operating system, which served as the basis for all Windows versions following Windows XP.

The recent changes in AR leadership and Google\u2019s unstable commitment and vision have weighed heavily on my decision.\u201d Lucovsky writes.

Lucocsky suggested that he may be considering heading back to Microsoft in response to a tweet from Microsoft’s Chief Scientific Officer, Eric Horvitz, which asked if it was time for him to come home.

The departure of Lucovsky is another setback for Google’s AR team, which has faced several challenges in recent months. These include job cuts and the resignation of Clay Bavor, who was formerly in charge of VR at Google.
In June, a report revealed that Google has abandoned its plans to create AR glasses, known as Project Iris. Additionally, the enterprise version of Google Glass has been discontinued.<\/div>\n
