The feature basically improves the bitrate of 1080p videos to make them more crisper and defined. Earlier, the feature was exclusive to iOS and now the company is planning to expand this feature on the web.
Windows Latest has spotted this feature on Windows which indicates that PC users will soon be able to watch enhanced bitrate videos on Windows. According to the report, Google has recently started testing the Enhanced Bitrate Videos feature on Windows 11.
Regular 1080p quality option is not going away
While the new Enhanced Bitrate option for 1080p videos will offer better quality to users, the regular 1080p option will continue to exist alongside the new 1080p enhanced option. Users will be able to choose from both options as per their choice. But, there’s a catch — YouTube Premium.
The new 1080p enhanced option is only available for users who have subscribed to YouTube Premium subscription. This means, the feature is only available for them. Also, there’s one more thing worth noting about it is that the feature only applies to 1080p videos. What this means, is if a video has 4K resolution available, it won’t get the 1080p enhanced option. Also, if the video has lower resolutions, then also the 1080p enhanced option won’t be available.
How bitrates affect videos quality
Resolution isn’t the only thing that affects the video quality. The resolution is merely the size of the canvas. Sure the better resolution results in better quality for videos, but bitrates plays an important role here too. For instance, if you have a 4K video with a low bitrate, the quality of the video won’t be as good as you expect from a 4K video. The same applies to 1080p videos and other resolutions too. When a video has a higher bitrate, it results in more video bits being uploaded within a second. This results in improved video quality.

[ad_2]

Source link

[ad_1] Back in April, Google announced a new Enhanced Bitrate videos feature on iOS for YouTube to improve the video quality on the platform.
