ChatGPT is arguably the most popular application in the technology industry right now. It is not only attracting internet users but also hackers who pry on such apps from where they can steal personal information for their financial gains. In a similar development, a Singapore-based cybersecurity firm claimed that it has identified 101,134 stealer-infected devices with saved ChatGPT credentials.
According to Group-IB\u2019s Threat Intelligence platform, the compromise credentials from these devices are on sale on the dark web. Users’ personal data was stolen by malware.
“The number of available logs containing compromised ChatGPT accounts reached a peak of 26,802 in May 2023,” the group said.
More employees are using ChatGPT to optimise their work now. The platform stores the history of user queries and AI responses. THis means that if a user has used ChatGPT for any confidential or sensitive information, it will be stored and can be exploited for targeted attacks against companies and\/or their employees.
India top targeted country<\/span>
According to Group-IB\u2019s findings, the Asia-Pacific region experienced the highest concentration of ChatGPT credentials \u2013 40.5% between June 2022 and May 2023 \u2013 being offered for sale.
Out of the total compromised credentials, 40,999 were from the Asia-Pacific region; followed by 24,925 from Middle East and Africa; 16,951 from Europe and 12,314 from Latin America.
When it comes to countries, India topped the list with 12,632 compromised credentials, followed by Pakistan (9,217), Brazil (6,531), Vietnam (4,771), Egypt (4,588), The US (2,995), France (2,923), Morocco (2,647), Indonesia (2,555) and Bangladesh (2,463).

In order to mitigate the risks associated with compromised ChatGPT accounts, it is advised that users update their passwords regularly. Additionally, users should not punch in their sensitive data or customer information on chatbots.<\/div>\n
