Paytm\u2019s entrepreneurial growth into becoming one of the India\u2019s leading payments company will now be taught to future business leaders at Harvard Business School (HBS). Alvaro Rodriguez Arregui, a senior lecturer at Harvard took to Linkedin to share the news. As a part of the Global Tech Entrepreneurship course, students of Harvard Business School will look at Paytm\u2019s journey\u2019s in two parts.
“It\u2019s going to be a great case where we will review the first six years of Paytm until 2016. We will discuss the then exisiting India infrastructure that they leveraged to establish the business. Also the infrastructure that they had to build to create the leading payment company in India. We will also cover the Indian ecosystem at the time such as funding and talent and the challenges and opportunities that it presented. We will then explore the way Paytm confronted a new context with the introduction of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in India in 2016 and we will review the businesses that Paytm has built until the present day,” Arregui wrote.
Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma thanked Arregui in reply to his Linkedin post. \u201cThank you Professor. It is humbling to see your interest and insights on Paytm,\u201d he wrote.
This is the second time Paytm will be taught at HBS. Back in 2017, HBS\u2019 India Research Centre (IRC) included Paytm in the curriculum. The study titled ‘Paytm: Building a Payments Network’ was taught both within and outside Harvard. As a part of that study, Paytm\u2019s focus on enabling offline payments even for the smallest merchants by using smartphones and QR codes was explored. <\/div>\n
