Nothing\u2019s second smartphone \u2014 Phone (2) \u2014 is set to launch next month. Unlike last time, the Nothing \u2018buzz\u2019 creating machine is slightly slow. Yet, tidbits about the Phone (2) keep trickling every now and then. One of the things that the Phone (2) is set to bring is an all-new transparent Type-C to Type-C charging cable. The company shared some details about how it went on to make the charging cable. In a tweet, Nothing said that the new Nothing Cable C-C has been two years in the making and was originally planned to launch alongside Phone (1).
\u201cFor us at Nothing, the little things matter. A cable is a pure functional product; not many companies are willing to pay attention to make it better,\u201d the company said in the tweet.
Scratch-free, transparent cable<\/span>
Nothing said its team actually built over 20 design concepts, \u201cmany of which were rejected by our partners as it was deemed too difficult to manufacture.\u201d
Nothing says that it has used a transparent shell on a Type-C cable, which meant \u201cwe had to ditch traditional dispensing bonding or ultrasonic welding process, and move to an industry-first moulding process to create a seamless iron shell.\u201d
Nothing claims that the cable\u2019s design is \u201cflawless\u201d and free from lines and surface defects.
The cable is actually scratch-free because of the materials Nothing has used to make it. \u201cTo achieve this, we have implemented plating techniques such as sandblasting, pre-plating, and electroless plating,\u201d the company said.
The Nothing Cable C-C, as per the company, passed over 25 tests including strict plugging and unplugging, salt spray and current resistance. \u201cWe pushed boundaries and went 60% beyond industry standards when it comes to bending, passing our bending test more than 16,000 times,\u201d said Nothing in the tweet.<\/div>\n
