Now, a report by Bloomberg suggests that Apple Music’s biggest rival Spotify is set to introduce it later this year. According to the report, Spotify is mulling over the option of introducing a ‘superpremium’ subscription tier for its users.
What is lossless audio?
Lossless music is a type of file that has been encoded without any loss of data. This means that the original sound waves are perfectly preserved, resulting in a high-quality listening experience. Lossless music is typically encoded at a bitrate of 16-bit/44.1kHz, which is the same as the audio quality of a CD. However, some lossless music files are encoded at higher bitrates, such as 24-bit/96kHz. Lossless music can be played back on a wider range of devices. This is because it is not compressed, so it does not require as much processing power to playback.
The main difference between lossless music and other types of audio files, such as MP3s, is that MP3s are compressed, which means that some data is lost during the encoding process. This can result in a loss of sound quality, especially at lower bitrates.
Spotify’s plans for lossless audio
The report by Bloomberg states that the lossless audio support could be given under the most expensive plan Spotify will have. Currently, in the US, Spotify’s plans cost $9.99 per month. A rumour on Reddit had speculated that Spotify’s subscription plan that will offer lossless audio support and other features could cost up to $19.99. Interestingly, Apple doesn’t charge any premium for lossless audio support.
Also, the report also revealed that Spotify could bring this plan first to other markets and then bring it to the US. The speculated date for the US launch is sometime in October this year.

[ad_2]

Source link

[ad_1] It was in 2021 when Apple first introduced support for lossless audio on its Music streaming service.
