The application for the patent was filed at the end of 2021, nearly a year and a half before Apple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/wearables\/news\/apple-vision-pro-launch-price-sale-date-specifications-features-mixed-reality-4095294\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> its first wearable mixed reality headset, the Apple Reality Pro. The patent application also suggests that Apple&#8217;s engineers continued to work on a version of the company&#8217;s cancelled AirPower wireless charger.<\/p>\n<p>Patent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/image-ppubs.uspto.gov\/dirsearch-public\/print\/downloadPdf\/11677429\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US 11,677,429 B2<\/a>, granted to Apple (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patentlyapple.com\/2023\/06\/apple-won-a-patent-this-week-covering-possible-future-accessories-for-iphone-ipad-including-a-simple-hmd-styled-iphone-case.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">via<\/a> Patently Apple) on June 13, details the company&#8217;s plans for an accessory that can be mounted on a user&#8217;s head. The design of the accessory appears to resemble a VR headset that can house a smartphone, similar to a Google Cardboard headset. The head-mounted device could take the form of a virtual reality or augmented reality headset, according to the document, which describes a receptacle for the headset and a band that wraps around a user&#8217;s head. The headset and the phone are shown to communicate using wireless circuitry on both devices.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the document also reveals a diagram of a wireless charging station that looks remarkably similar to Apple&#8217;s cancelled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/tags\/airpower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AirPower<\/a> charging station. The company recently announced its first mixed reality headset that combines AR and VR, at the recently concluded Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023. Meanwhile, the AirPower was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/mobiles\/news\/airpower-is-officially-cancelled-apple-pulls-plug-on-wireless-charging-mat-2015050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancelled<\/a> by Apple in 2019, over a year after it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/mobiles\/news\/apple-airpower-wireless-charging-pad-launch-availability-1749637\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled in 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Apple was granted a patent that would allow the company to create new smartphones and tablets that are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gadgets360.com\/mobiles\/news\/iphone-spatial-composites-patent-glass-metal-plastic-scratch-resistant-back-panel-4125962\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resistant to abrasion<\/a> and scratches.
